Public School Counseling Program

The Public School Counseling Program places trained and supervised master’s level clinicians in public schools to provide counseling to youngsters and their families while working in support of educational staff. The Program serves youth with mental health care needs, including social, emotional and behavioral difficulties. Utilizing an integrated approach, Public School Counselors work to enhance collaborations within the school and with outside agencies to ensure that service efforts complement each other.

The following services are provided in coordination with the participating school systems:

  • Individual Counseling
  • Group Counseling
  • Milieu Support
  • Family Counseling and Parent Support/Skill Training
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Consultation and Collaboration with School Staff

Counseling for children is provided within the school building, which offers ease of access and availability in times of greatest need. Family counseling and parenting skills training are offered both in school and in the home when appropriate. Outreach efforts are designed to decrease barriers to family participation in counseling and improve communications between home and school.

Spurwink’s Public School Counseling Program currently serves the following school districts: Auburn, Gardiner, Lewiston, Old Orchard Beach, Portland, SAD 6 (Bonny Eagle High School), SAD 61(Bridgton, Naples and Casco), Turner and Westbrook.
