Spurwink Awarded Grant to Study Youth with Co-occurring Disorders

Grey Arrow

Spurwink has been awarded a $25,000 Co-occurring State Integration Initiative Grant. In the year ahead, Spurwink will be assisting the state with the collection of data on the experiences of youth who are being assessed and treated for both mental illness and substance abuse problems.

The grant supports a federal and state project that will make it possible for providers to offer integrated co-occurring treatment services to youth and adults with co-occurring disorders (mental illness and substance abuse). Historically, individuals with co-occurring conditions have not received cost-effective, integrated treatment they need due to structural and philosophical differences between the behavioral health and substance abuse treatment systems.

Spurwink offers co-occurring screening, assessment and treatment in all of its day treatment and public school counseling programs. The data collected will be gathered from youth receiving treatment through these programs.
