Functional Family Therapy

This highly successful model of family intervention serves adolescents who are at-risk. The FFT model is family-focused, strength-based and risk and protective factor driven and clearly identifies specific phases that organize family change in a coherent manner.

Functional Family Therapy

Each phase in the FFT change process includes specific goals, assessment foci, specific techniques of intervention and clinical skills necessary for success. FFT uses alliance based motivation strategies to engage all family members and identifies specific behavior changes that are strategic.

FFT serves youth ages 10 – 19 who are displaying at-risk behaviors such as:

  • School truancy or suspension
  • Substance abuse
  • Rule breaking and parent/child conflict
  • Legal issues such as prior and/or current offenses, failures to comply, probation, juvenile detention, running away

Eligibility for services:

  • Must meet criteria above
  • The family must be involved in the treatment process
  • Must be eligible for MaineCare

NOTE: Children with PDD/Autism or mental retardation are not considered appropriate participants for this treatment model.
