Spurwink Launches New Brand

On June 26, Spurwink launched a new brand for the organization. Employees gathered at the agency's headquarters at 899 Riverside Street in Portland and form a human chain to celebrate the creation of a new look. Staff from throughout southern and central Maine stretched out along the sidewalk on Riverside Street originating from Spurwink's first residential treatment program (established for troubled boys in 1960).

The gathering served to help demonstrate the agency's new branding message: that Spurwink is an organization that cares for exceptional individuals and is comprised of many incredible individuals who “go the distance and change lives.”

“We chose to assemble in this way to celebrate our solidarity,” Stiles said. “This is a unique opportunity to gather together and promote Spurwink as an experienced leader, a caring provider and an integral part of the community.”

Spurwink Changes Logo And Continues To Change Lives

The new Spurwink logo features the agency name printed in lowercase with emphasis on the letter “i,” in “Spurwink.” The red i symbolizes a person and represents the many special individuals the organization serves each year. The logo also carries the agency's tagline – “Going the distance, Changing lives.”

“Although abstract, once you see the person in the logo, it is unmistakable,” said Dawn Stiles , President of Spurwink Services. “Individualized care and treatment is the cornerstone of our mission and values and is the essence of Spurwink.”

Stiles said the growth and development of the Spurwink family of services prompted the need for a unified brand. From its inception in 1960 as The Spurwink School, Spurwink grew from a single residential program to a comprehensive organization providing education, prevention, technology and social services to thousands of individuals and families throughout Maine and beyond. Today Spurwink is the parent company for three non-profit subsidiaries: Spurwink Services, Spurwink Institute and the Augusta Boys and Girls Club for Teens. These three non-profit organizations employ over 850 staff and serve over 5,000 individuals each year.
