Maine State Troopers Sponsor Spurwink Child Maltreatment ConferenceSpurwink is pleased to announce that the Maine State Troopers Association is a sponsor of the 11th Annual Northern New England Conference on Child Maltreatment. This two-day conference, coordinated by Spurwink's Child Abuse Program, will be held on September 14 and 15, 2006 at the Sheraton in South Portland. It is designed to provide multi-disciplinary training to professionals who are involved in child abuse prevention, prosecution and treatment and focuses on helping to increase skills and knowledge in the prevention, recognition, assessment and treatment of all forms of child maltreatment. "This is the third year the State Troopers Association has generously supported this important conference," said Larry Ricci , M.D., Director of Spurwink's Child Abuse Program. "We are grateful for both their support and their interest in identifying and treating child abuse." The 2006 conference features six dynamic national speakers presenting on a variety of topics such as: forensically sensitive therapy; interviewing alleged perpetrators; relationship of maltreatment types to child outcomes; evidence-based child welfare practice; and child welfare policies on reunification and kinship care.
