Working with Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Families
Cultural competence is the ability to provide quality assistance to clients with diverse values, beliefs, or traditions, including tailoring the delivery of services to meet their social, cultural, and linguistic needs. It is a set of behaviors, attitudes, and policies that come together, enabling the agency to work effectively in cross–cultural situations.
At Spurwink, we are aware and sensitive of the importance to examine our efforts to provide programs and services responsive to the needs and preferences of families of young children and adults from diverse cultural and linguistic groups. Because one approach may not be successful with all groups, we understand a range of strategies are necessary to enhance our relationships with families from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Spurwink is committed to developing a common foundation of knowledge and practical strategies to address the needs of the families we serve, especially when the families' backgrounds are different from our own.
