The Spurwink Story
In 1960, Spurwink served 8 boys. Today we serve over 4,000 children, adolescents, adults and families each year.
We began with one house in Portland, Maine. Today, Spurwink operates 20 homes and 7 special education schools for children ranging from 5 to 21 years of age.
Starting with a handful of employees, Spurwink today draws much of it's strength from its 900 employees..
Our values remain the same. They are the cornerstone of what we do and how we deliver services:Developing positive self regard in those we serve by honoring and respecting who they are, and then building upon the strengths of the individual and the family.
To celebrate our 50th Anniversary we are telling The Spurwink Story. A different story will be posted here each week. The Spurwink Story is also published weekly in The Maine Sunday Telegram, a gift to Spurwink from The Portland Press Herald.
